Biodynamic Research

Sources and Network

Research in biodynamic agriculture and food takes place at the scientific level as well as the practical level – always connected to passionate researchers and farmer – researchers who have been triggered by a specific topic of investigation.

Scientific facts on biodynamic agriculture

The information presented in the following factsheets and booklets summarises the current state of knowledge on biodynamic agriculture, which is available in two systematic reviews of scientific literature published to date (Brock et al., 2019 and Santoni et al., 2022), including a meta-analysis of soil ecological properties (Christel et al., 2021), as well as a synthesis paper on the potential and challenges of biodynamic farming as a resource for sustainability transformation (Rigolot & Quantin, 2022).

The second booklet focuses on the main results published in academic scientific journals on the physical, chemical and microbiological properties of the biodynamic horn manure preparation (500) and its effects on soil and plant physiology.

Sources for Biodynamic Research

A list of organisations involved in research can be found at the Section for Agriculture.

Communication about research is important for our member organisations and their members. Several organisations have their own newsletters, such as the Forschungsring in Germany. Overviews and summaries are made in French by www.biodynamie-recherche.org.

A biannual Biodynamic Research Conference is organised by the Section for Agriculture at the Goetheanum with support of the Federation.
